New Construction, Unparalleled Craftsmanship
Inspired by the architect Edward Lutyens, this neo-classical style estate sits on just over 1-acre in Atherton, CA. Notable features on the property include eight wood burning fireplaces with antique surrounds, a stone clad exterior, custom wood windows and doors, reclaimed slate roofing, all anchored by a 5,000 sq. ft. basement. The interior includes an abundance of millwork – over 24 distinct ceiling profiles, antique repurposed paneling, barrel vaulted and coffered ceilings, and Venetian plaster clad walls and ceilings that all combine to make this a formal yet livable space.

DETAILS
The millwork was extensive enough that we split the job between two millwork contractors to expedite the schedule and reduce costs. While the residence boasts old world charm and craftsmanship, it’s a fully automated smart home, controlled from a phone or tablet. The exterior showcases a stone façade, large timber Alaskan Yellow Cedar trellises, reflecting pools and fountains. The addition of a stone façade and reclaimed slate roof midway through construction required exacting and timely coordination between the design and construction teams.
